Our experience at the PG Live Exhibition

My day at Progressive live exhibition Tuesday 29th May 2012

Ohh no!! Was my first reaction when the alarm went off an hour earlier than usual, to get from Swanage to London means catching the 7.27am South West train from Wareham. Luckily I can have my ‘power naps’ on route, I seem to fall asleep really easily when I’m sat still for more than 3 minutes. I have even been known to be asleep before the Poole station (approx 5 miles from Wareham). After 2 power naps we reached Clapham junction – 2 train changes later we arrive at hot sunny Design Centre in Islington.

Once registered we hit the lower floor of exhibitioners – our first stop was to see our friends at SWA, even though they are display stand manufactures we always stop for a chat and a catch up at every exhibition we see them. We then started talking to the exhibitors – customers new and old it is always good to get the latest news on how everybody is finding the current economic climate. Of course we talk about display stands to see if we can offer help and advice on how to maximize your sales but we also use this time to tell you what new products we have launched like the new Slatwall Solutions products and the new web site. We believe in talking to you about the information rather than doing the ‘hard sell’ it’s so much nicer to chat.
We then ventured up the stair case to the main floor where the main exhibitor stands are located, we started our weaving up and down the crowded isles. Everybody had a very positive outlook on the show I think the only negative comments we had was how hot it was going to get inside the hall by late afternoon! We reached the half way point when it was defiantly a cup of tea time – 1. To get a quick sit down to recharge the batteries and 2. To lubricate the throat – so much talking!!! You would think I’d be used to talking all day! There was such a buzz in the hall of excitement, talking and noise it’s really good just to be there for the experience.

My only concern during the day was how am I going to understand my scribble! I had made so many notes in my little note pad, things to do for customers, information to send out, people email addresses, customers orders etc…. I was beginning to worry about not being able to have a power nap on the return train journey having to re writing all my notes!

In no time at all it was 1.00pm – time for lunch, yummy. I managed to restrict myself to just 1 dessert.
Food gone, water drank and it was back to it – walked around the Springboard (which had air con) and then the 2nd floor gallery. Lots of new ideas and card designs around, well done to all the designers, artists and publishers. It is also good to read in the GCA Greeting Card Market report 2011 that £1.39 billion was spent on single cards in the last year – more than tea and coffee put together which I find very surprising. Let’s hope that trend continues.

We left the Design centre very warm, worn out and tired but with that feeling of a good days work had been done. All I had to do now is decipher my notes and do all the follow up – easy peasy (not!) Just in case you wondered I did manage 3 power naps on the journey back…..
